Staff of the Department conduct following basic and applied research at present

  • Advance Reproductive Biotechnology and genome conservation in farm animals (funded by IAEA and CARP)
  • Cytogenetics and molecular genetics (funded by IAEA and CARP)
  • Nutrition – Reproduction interactions
  • Integrated approach for improving livestock production using indigenous resources and conserving the environment (funded by IAEA)
  • Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC), its current status and methods for mitigation (funded by the Asian Development Bank through the Department of Wildlife Conservation of Sri Lanka)
  • The management of breeding and health of elephant populations in Asia (funded by the European Union’s Asia-Link programme, with partners in Thailand, Netherlands)
