About Us

The department of Farm Animal Production and Health (FAPH) was established in the year 2000 as a part of the major reform in the faculty to teach subjects related to animal production and health to veterinary undergraduates. Department involves in teaching undergraduates from the 3rd semester onwards through formal class room lectures and substantial amount of practical and clinical work both in the faculty and in the field. The main outreach activities of the department involves providing disease diagnosis and treatment to the small holder livestock farmers through, the large animal teaching hospital together with the mobile veterinary(ambulatory) service and investigation of major reproductive problems and disease conditions in state and private farms. All these outreach activities are linked with academic programmes to provide sound clinical training to undergraduates in farm animal medicine, surgery, reproduction and management.

Our Mission

To impart knowledge, skills and attitudes on farm animal production and health to veterinary undergraduates and postgraduates, in order to enable them to maintain the productivity, reproductive efficiency, health and welfare of farm, aquatic and wild animals. The mission also includes providing services to the public on various aspects, including advice, disease prevention, control and treatment, conducting continuing education programmes for veterinarians and other stakeholders in the livestock sector, functioning as a national referral centre and conducting research aimed at improving farm animal production and health.
