The Masters in Veterinary Science (MVSc.) programme was initiated in 2006 by the Veterinary Postgraduate Education Unit of the FVMAS. It is targeted towards practicing veterinarians with the objective of providing them with the opportunity to acquire specialised knowledge and skills in their chosen fields to advance their professional careers. Therefore, the MVSc. has obtained the approval of the University of Peradeniya to offer the MVSc. with the option to specialise in one of seven subject streams, namely Diagnostic Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Public Health, Poultry Health and Management, Animal Reproduction, Wildlife and Zoo animal Health and Management, and Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. The first cycle of the MVSc. offered specialisation in the areas of Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Pathobiology, and Poultry Health & Management. The second cycle of the MVSc. which commenced in 2008 additionally offered the degree of MVSc. in Animal Reproduction. Currently, there are several veterinarians enrolled in this programme, while several have already graduated in 2008.
